Okay so I flat out stole this video from the blog of the fabulous Amy Porterfield, social media expert for authors and one of the coolest chicks ever, but it was way too good not to share. Since it’s not technically hers I think she’ll be okay with it.
Every time I watch it I get goose bumps. If you have ever wondered what would happen if you lost your job or you have lost it and you don’t know what to do next, this video may offer a new and inspiring perspective on what’s possible.
Enjoy

I’ve seen this before and it looks great, but it seems to gloss over the facts that many of us have faced…not enough money to put food on the table, therefore no time just to “enjoy the kids” or take up hobbies. I know way too many people who haven’t had the luxury of doing the things these people have done — good for them, but I’d like to see people included who’ve faced huge stresses that came with the loss of a job and income, etc.

Caroline,
You are oh so right. I am 100% in line with you on that and I know there are far too many people out there who this is truly not a possibility for. I am not discounting them or trying to pretend this recession is not happening. I know it is and how devastating and painful it has been and is for many people. I know that if I lost all of my clients right now or my husband lost his job we would not be exploring our passions. We’d be too busy trying to get any job we could to support each other. At the same time, there is something worth enjoying and celebrating in these stories too, which was my intention in including it here.
Thank you for your perspective.

Thanks, Melani, I get where you’re coming from and appreciate the reply. I spent a year working at Starbucks when I was unable to get another corporate job (having once been a VP at a major media agency) and while it was a struggle financially (doing freelance work at the same time), it changed me fundamentally as a person and opened my eyes to many wonderful things. So I know that despite intense struggles, such as what I and so many have gone through with the loss of a good job/income, there are gifts to be found.
