Mojo Video Tip: Surround Yourself with the BEST People

November 12, 2009

It seems like common sense that we should surround ourselves with great people – with people that make us feel better after we have spent time with them but oddly enough it doesn’t always work out that way. Sometimes we keep people in our lives out of habit, because they are friends of friends, because we work together and we have no choice, because at one point they were great people to have in our lives or because we have a familial or perceived obligation to do so.

The fact is everyone we hang out with brings some type of energy to the party. Some of those people bring energy that makes you laugh, lifts you up and makes you feel like you can do anything. Some of those people bring energy that makes you feel tense, anxious, wrong, stupid and generally less “good” than they are. Then there are those who are simply so negative and so critical that a session with them makes you feel thoroughly exhausted and in the worst of cases thinking they may be right.

All of this energy impacts you and often without even realizing it you are being impacted in a negative way by someone with whom you’re hanging; so, even if you can’t ditch all of the people in your life that rock your boat, start to notice where your energy levels are before and after you spend time with people and if you feel really bad, tense or less than your awesome self, do what you can to change the situation. If you are super close to the person you could tell them how you have been feeling. If you have to hang out with them but don’t want to, see if you can change the dynamic of the relationship or at the very least go into your time with them knowing you have to manage your own energy more effectively.

The bottom line is surrounding yourself with the best people feels awesome and it makes you want to be better too. Why not find more of them and leave the others behind?

In the following video we touch briefly on the idea of frenemies and what you can do when you find yourself dealing with one of these less than fabulous “friends”.
